An image of a couple viewed through the sand dunes, strolling along the beach. This is on Jekyll Island, Georgia with Cumberland Island. This beach is typical of the the beaches of the barrier islands along the south eastern USA. Stringing from Florida up to South Carolina, they include: Amelia Island, Cumberland Island, Jekyll Island, St. Simons Island, Sea Island, Little St. Simons Island, Sapelo Island, Blackbeard Island, St. Catherines Island, Tybee Island, Hilton Head, Daufuskie Island, Fripp Island, Pawleys Island, Hunting Island, and more. These islands have white powdery sand that make up extensive dune systems. Sea grass or sea oats help anchor the sand in the dune formations. Many species of animal make their home in the dunes. One of the most well known is the Green Sea Turtle which digs nests in the sand of the dunes.
