Mardi Gras in New Orleans is celebrated for weeks before Ash Wednesday with bands and parades on the streets, in the Superdome or other facilities. The Mardi Gras Krewes, with Rex-the King of Carnival, being the oldest was organized in 1872. The members & guests of Krewes as Endymion, Zulu, Comus, Bacchus & others ride the floats throwing beads, doubloons, & trinkets to the crowds clamoring, "Throw Me Something Mister." Carnival Balls are formal parties given by a Krewe. At midnight on Fat Tuesday all celebration ends and the clean up begins. Great fun!
