Statement from artist
It is proposed in this work to discuss the contemporary image relation through “grotesque” concept, in part as Wolfang Kayser presents in his work Das Groteske, but mainly as a tradition that far from the depletion it meets the contemporary conditions in its plenitude.
They are digital pictures that when observed from a normal distance for reading the works with proposed dimensions present through the repetition and color game, abstract and pleasurable standards. However, when it is observed carefully in detail intend to surprise the observer, reveling contemporary violence scenes (terrorism and wars) drawn from the internet and digitally manipulated. In this way, it is proposed to discuss the image reception on the visual means (being on television, internet, advertise boards or on artistic objects) through concept questioning such as perception, identity, passivity, dormancy and mainly between pleasure and repulsion.
In a grotesque image, the beauty disguises the improbable, sordid and stupidity. When it is looked at a grotesque image, the pleasure and happiness present themselves at the first moment. The same does not happen with most of the images entailed by the publicity that hide behind the glamour the economical system perversities and contradictions? And, it does not happen equally with the way as the images are entailed on television news, they are always aseptic and pleasurable the same? I think it is what happens. Although, the volume and speed that they come from the media prevent that people observe carefully. And, what is hidden remains hidden. But, when it is analyzed with attention can be seen that the improbable, unwished and annoyed are found there. Therefore, the grotesque was never so contemporaneous.
