Description
The name of this painting is Tom, Tad and Teddy. It is an illustrative folk art style watercolor painting of three little yellow chicken chicks sitting under a colorful tree. I first drew the art in pencil and then painted in watercolor. I then applied Indian ink in areas that I felt needed to be emphasized. This is from my imagination and the study of chicks in farm yards of several of my relatives as I was growing up. In specific my grandparents raised a handful of chickens for eggs and eating; I have some not so fond memories of helping out with de-feathering the birds. My Auntie Faye would sometimes buy chicks at Easter for us children to enjoy, and then let them loose on her 100 acre farm to run around . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Chickens are hatched and have feather all over their bodies with a few hairs scattered. Chickens have two legs and two wings. The domestic heavy breed chickens have lost their ability to fly, they can flap their wings to help jump to a little higher level or move more quickly along the ground. The lighter bodied birds can fly short distances; some over relatively high fences. (Information Source: http://urbanext.illinois.edu/eggs/res08-whatis.html)
