Description
This is another painting from my 1995 series "Mexicanismo" . It has an earthy feeling while also combining soft impressionistic brushwork and an angular nod towards the abstract. Personally I love the composition, with the 3 figures forming a sort of trinity. The 1950's gas pump grounds the figures and connects them to the architecture. A side note: when I was in elementary school, there was a "Mexican Day" where we were told that we could "dress like a Mexican" for school. I came to school wearing blue jeans and a white T-shirt. When asked if I had forgotten, I replied, "This is how the Mexicans I know dress". All my white friends were in their sombreros.. 4th grade was fun.
