Towing A Platform In The Gulf Of Mexico Off The Coast Of Louisiana

Copyright Warning Do Not Alter My Photographer Notes: This amazing photo is a oil production platform being towed by the two boats to the right. The attach cables to the production platform and tow it to its final designation. I was on a exploration boat and we met up with the platform when it reached the required location. The legs of the platform are hollow and when the platform reaches it designated location the valves are open so sea water can be allowed in which sinks it to the required depth for operations. The legs act as a ballast which maintains the level of the platform. This particular transporting of the platform was halted because one of the cable had snapped and the operation could not presume until the cable was repaired. The platforms are then anchored to the bottom of the sea by lines which also stabilizes the massive structures for drilling operations in water.
