Trail By The Sea
Photograph - Digital Photography
This sandy walking trail meanders through a field of sea grass with a vibrant blue sky overhead. It is called the Dead Neck Trail and is located in South Cape Beach State Park in Mashpee, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod. South Cape Beach State Park has something for everyone, including three and one-half miles of sandy beach along the Atlantic Ocean. From the beach one can see the island of Martha's Vineyard Across Vineyard Sound. A boardwalk connects the beach to a marshy area and pond. On the day this photograph was shot, my family and I enjoyed watching some men and women having much success clamming on the pond. In spite of it being late November, the fall foliage was still vibrant, especially the bright gold of the rosa rugosa leaves with their bright red fruit. The paler gold grasses waved like the sea in the brisk breeze and provided a lovely contrast against the bright blue sky. South Cape Beach State Park is part of the Waquoit Bay National Estaurine Research Reserve which is managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
