Description
March 19, 2015 was the last day this gorgeous tree stood her ground. She stood in this spot for over a 100 years as The Valley Guardian watching who came and went from the valley. She had a presence about her that caught your attention, I would look over at her every time I passed by and reveled at her size her beauty. The Amish bought this piece of ground and wanted her gone...didn't care what she meant to the people who live here, just took her down. They dug deep with an excavator and pushed with the bucket till she could hold her ground no more and finally toppled over to her death. She gave a good fight, but had to give up in the end. Breaks my heart that I'll never come over the hill on Rt. 44 Hwy. and see her as I drive towards home. A senseless act of greed and ignorance. I'll never understand mankind...Good bye my friend I miss you...
Note: I realize this was their ground to do as they wanted, but farmers for many, many years farmed around her...I can't imagine they can plant that much more crop to make a difference. "If it has sentimental value, we'll farm around it...it's an okie thing..." Many are saddened by the loss of this magnificent Oak tree.
