Description
Trumpetfish (Aulostomus maculatus) shadowing a stoplight parrotfish (Sparisoma viride), supermale, in order to approach prey unseen. The parrotfish is the larger, blue coloured fish and the trumpetfish is the grey coloured fish above it. Trumpetfish are known to use larger fish as camouflage, shadowing them until they find the right time to strike their prey. Its long mouth acts as a vacuum that sucks up small animals by expanding to a size equal to the diameter to the body. Photographed in Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles, Caribbean, Atlantic Ocean.
