Painting - Oil / Canvs
Driving back to the Sienna area after a long day sketching the landscape of Tuscany, Italy, I saw this Italian sunset in my mirror and stopped to do just one more reference sketch. Driving and often getting lost on the back roads in these hills and valleys, one comes across wonderfull landscapes it seems at every turn. Our villa in Toiano, Italy was once part of a wine growing estate which overlooked a beautiful valley that still had plenty of working vineyards where one could watch the various farm help going about their business tending the grapes. I was struck by the roses that grew at the end of some of the rows in vineyards and found out that in high umidity areas, roses are suseptible to mould which also affects the quuality of the grapes so they become sort of an early warning sytem of potential trouble. Over the years it has also become a tradition with many Tuscan wine growers.
