Tybee Island Lighthouse - A Sentimental Journey

Photograph - Photo Art
The vintage feel of this textured photo art of Tybee Island's famous lighthouse was one of my earlier pieces of work that blended photography with digital art. I set out to create something that had a sentimental feeling to it because I think most of us love the sentimental nostalgia of the seaside in general and lighthouses in particular.
Both the text and the warm colors of this image are truly the stuff of sentiment and long ago times. I blended my photo with a letter from my grandfather to my grandmother written over 70 years ago. I wanted it to almost feel like a vintage post card where the sender had to continue their message on the photo itself. I actually have a good collection of these, also from the depths of my grandmother's old steamer trunk. Apparently there was rarely enough room for all they had to say in the confines on the back of a post card. And I love the blending of the images of the places they went with their thoughts about being there.
At any rate, that was my thought process when I created this piece, and I personally feel that it captures the feeling of a long ago trip to enjoy the day on Tybee Island's beach.
