Ulysses Grant Dailey (1885-1961), US physician. Grant was named after Ulysses S. Grant, the Civil War General and US President. He graduated from Northwestern University medical school in 1906. His career covered anatomy and surgery, and he assisted Dr Daniel Hale Williams with the first successful open-heart surgery. Dailey studied abroad in Europe, and then worked as chief surgeon at Chicago's Provident Hoospital. He was later appointed health advisor to the US State Department. Photograph published in 1925.
