This is what an ant might see when it looks up from the floor of a moist wood in the Spring. The beautiful leaves of the Mayapple (Podophyllum peltatum, also known as Adams Apple, mandrake root, American mandrake, raccoon berry, wild lemon, Indian apple, duck's foot, hog apple, umbrella plant, and ground lemon) are often likened to umbrellas, and rightly so. Most of the Mayapple plants in any given year will produce but one leaf, as seen here, and will not flower (flowering plants produce two leaves). And though the flowers of the Mayapple plant are a beautiful sight, one cannot be disappointed by the beauty of non-flowering specimens.
This shot is available in black-and-white and sepia. It was taken with a point-and-shoot camera, and so is only available for smaller prints.
