Description
Moon was at about 43%. I wanted to shoot the milky way over the "Horseshoe bend", but at 6:04 Arizona time, it was a bit too late for that. I got lazy and missed it!
Getting to the overlook was interesting! It was my first time there and I had no idea what it was like. The hike was only about 3/4 mile, but it was dark and COLD! my path was lit only by the moon light and a couple of hi-powered flashlights. I kind of knew I was close when the path became rocky, but I couldn't really see much. finally rocks disappeared 20 feet in front of me and it was obvious that I was there! I carefully got close to the edge of the 1100 foot drop! and took a few shots with my 14mm lens. My jaw dropped when I saw it for the first time in my camera's monitor! My eyes couldn't see much in the dark, but my camera could! And it was so impressive! It was such a great experience until bus tours full of people arrived at 7:00 am!
