Description:
This is a detail from my larger painting. The price quoted for the original work is for the entire painting . Many cultures honored cosmic goddesses who emerged from primordial waters, or identified powerful femininity with the ocean. Egyptian mother goddess Isis was described as being sea itself, while Net was mistress of the cosmic ocean. Titaness Tethys and Polynesian goddess Hina Moana embodied the seas and all dwelling within. Aphrodite, born of sea foam, was in ancient times believed to possess a fish’s tail. Asherah, a Semetic mother goddess was called Lady of the Sea, the Teutonic goddess Ran received the souls of drowned men, while Sedna, an Inuit sea goddess, dwells beneath the waves and captures the souls of the dead. “Mor”, a Celtic word for sea gave Morgan Le Fey her name; “Morgan the Fate.” Seductive, mischievous selkies, mermaids, sirens, sea nymphs and sprites are interesting but diluted metaphors of this powerful, fertile tradition.
I offer a special opportunity to patrons; payment by installment with no fee or interest on missed payments. When your balance is paid, the art is shipped. Contact me for details.
