Description
Thistle is the common name of a group of flowering plants characterized by leaves with sharp prickles. In the language of flowers, the thistle, like the burr, is an ancient Celtic symbol of nobility of character as well as of birth, for the wounding or provocation of a thistle yields punishment. The thistle has been the national emblem of Scotland since the reign of Alexander III. In Canada, it is one of the four floral emblems on the flag of Montreal; in the US, Carnegie Mellon University features the thistle in its crest in honor of the Scottish heritage of its founder, Andrew Carnegie.
I’ve always found the thistle bloom to be beautiful, however the plant is a wicked, stickery thing and brings back memories of having to go out to the pastures in Kansas to cut and dig them so that they would overtake the pastures and cause injury to livestock and crops.

Wonderfully direct and beautiful floral capture Lee. You've made thistle seem soft and delicate.

Great capture Lee you've shown the beauty of thistle to perfection. I also enjoyed reading about the noble history of this plant!
