Description
Before I planned my first trip to Mexico's Yucatan, I had read that there were two beaches close to Merida. There was a much closer option that Celestun, but I had read that the beach there was much nicer, less crowded, and it was in the midst of a large nature preserve.
This beautiful beach was everything it was billed as and well worth the hassle of renting a car for a day trip there on my own. In fact, I liked the beautiful waters of the Gulf of Mexico at Celestun so much I have dreamed often of going back and spending weeks instead of hours walking that beautiful coastline.
As it was, I only had hours, and I spent them out on the water in a boat an awful lot like the one pictured here. There was a row of them waiting to take people to see the sights of the nature reserve and those glorious gulf waters.
This is one of my favorite photos of that afternoon and one of my more popular Mexican beach scenes. I love the seemingly endless ocean waters. And one lone boat on that vast expanse of sea. It reminds me of the images of roads that vanish on the horizon. It's a metaphor for the uncharted future. It's boundless and full of possibility. What a beautiful way to see life.
