Description:

This is a soapstone sculpture of a mountain lion, or puma . It depicts a lion just upon awakening- hearing something perhaps, that puts him on the alert. These big cats are all feeling a bit on edge lately as they sense the shrinking of the space they have left in which to hunt and carry on the species. I carved it entirely by hand- using no power tools at all. I don't use any power tools because I have greater control over a carving tool if I use my own power to carve out whatever I need to in the stone. I really love the colors I got when I started to polish it!
