EDITORIAL USE ONLY. US physicists. Portrait of the US physicists Walker Bleakney, Walter Brattain, Vladimir Rojansky, and Everly Workman. Bleakney was one of inventors of mass spectrometers. Brattain is best known for inventing the transistor along with John Bardeen and William Shockley, and shared the 1956 Nobel Prize in Physics for the invention. Rojansky coined the terms terrene and contraterrene to describe, respectively, ordinary matter and the substance now commonly known as antimatter . Workman extensively researched the behaviour of storms and lightning.
