Description
Valdecoxib, computer model. This drug was used in the treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and menstrual symptoms under the trade name Bextra. It was withdrawn in 2005 following concerns about the drug increasing risk of heart attack and stroke. Valdecoxib is a nonsteroidal anti- inflammatory drug (NSAID), belonging to the family of Cox-2 inhibitors. NSAIDs inhibit the production of prostaglandins, the hormone-like chemicals that induce inflammation. The atoms in this model are represented by coloured spheres; carbon is green, hydrogen is white, oxygen is red, nitrogen is blue, and sulphur is yellow.
