Description
Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, aerial photograph. This view looks east along the entire 1700-metre-long lip of the waterfall. The waterfall is formed as the Zambezi River (flowing from left) falls into a 100-metre-deep chasm. In the dry season, most of the water flows over the western (nearer) parts of the waterfall, while the eastern (further) side is mostly dry. The chasm is a crack in the rock that was widened by the river. After falling over the waterfall, the river flows through the zig-zag of earlier chasms at right. The river runs along the border between Zambia (upper frame) and Zimbabwe (lower frame). The Victoria Falls Bridge (built in 1905) is at upper right.
