Selenite. View of a sample of selenite, a form of gypsum (hydrated calcium sulphate). Gypsum is a common mineral deposit of precipitated salt (sedimentary evaporite). It is used in the making of plaster of Paris for construction, as a retarder in Portland cement, as a flux for pottery and as a fertilizer. This sample is from Utah, USA.
