Vineyard And Lake
Photograph - Photography
White clouds drift over Keuka Lake as late afternoon sunlight illuminates a vineyard on a hillside above the lake. Keuka Lake is one of the Finger Lakes in Upstate New York and the name is derived from the local Indian word meaning "crooked", since the lake is Y-shaped unlike the other Finger Lakes which are long and thin, like fingers.
The Finger Lakes have been a major wine-producing area in New York since the mid-Nineteenth Century. The climate on the ridges and fields above the lakes are ideal for growing grapes and are covered by vineyards such as this one.
