Vintage Airlines Logos
Photograph - Photography
Once there was a world where travel by air was part romantic and part excitement. How could you board a Gibraltar Airways flight to Tangier and not expect some thrills and memorable experiences? These logos (scans of my collection of actual stickers and decals) are a sad record of those times, with many long-vanished airlines represented. Some of them were giants of their day. Pan Am. TWA. BOAC. But now, unfortunately, the three letters most associated with air travel: TSA. I think Charles Lindbergh, who pioneered many Pan Am routes, and war hero/race car driver Eddie Rickenbacker, who was the heart of Eastern Airlines (astronaut Frank Borman led it in its final years) must be spinning in their graves.
NOTE: The Fine Art watermark visible in preview windows is not on any print. The circular section of the Eastern Airlines logo (bottom row, second from the right) in the original is silver ink and did not reproduce well.
