Wash Woods Coast Guard Tower
Photograph - Photograph
The original tower was built in 1917, and destroyed by a hurricane in 1933. After finding the plans from archives in Washington DC, a replica was completed in 2011. The new tower took master craftsman, Chris Thompson, over a year to create. It is believed that the Wash Woods settlement was established somewhere between 1889 and 1895 by the survivors of a shipwreck. Where this villages name originated is debated. Another theory is that the name came from the stumps of an old maritime forest that pepper the water line at low tide.
I have been an artist as long as I can remember. My specialty is Portraits and Pastels. I took years off from drawing knowing that one day I would return to doing what I love. I've said for many years that I wanted to retire and paint lighthouses. I have dreamed of going to the Outer Banks in NC and taking photos to work from. I made that trip for the first time in 2012 and we loved the Outer Banks so much we are planning on retiring there someday. I bought the cameras to capture images to paint from, and fell in love with photography. It has become a passion on its own. I love traveling and taking photos and hope to be a full-time photographer and artist in the near future. I love shooting weddings and private events.
