Description:
I used every fundamental of art to the nines on this large piece. It is a culmination of many workstudies, sketches, analysis and dreams, not forgetting the passion that went into painting this. I had a vision one night of blue waters with reflections of trees, waterlilies, pads and Koi swimming in a perfect design. I write down my colorful visions and draw quick sketches as they are important sources to go back to when I am ready to paint the subject. This took over a week to paint, each day I started in a new section of the canvas, rewetting the former and kept it going from bottom to top until it was a whole unit. I began with the main waterlily flower as that is the focal point, every other object or shape was kept a little less detailed so your eye immediately goes to the big lily. The lines of the tree branches lead you into the fish on the left and the lily, the lily pads themselves are gradually directing the viewer towards the other big Koi who acts as a secondary focal point. Her tail directs you upwards toward the smaller pads and waterlilies that flow in a curving line across the background of the painting. The water plants in the background which are called water irises, act as a final backdrop and holding or directing your back into the painting with their curved leaf blades draping back into the water. The colors in the water go from deep green, to blue, lavender and light bue with grays also. It is not all one blue color, that would be boring and not allow your eyes to travel throughout the painting. The path of light from the large waterlily skips over the water in between the branch reflections to the back waterlilies and over the horizon by the left iris blades. The lily pads are large and distinct in the front and gradually decrease in size and color value to the back creating a great realistic perspective. I painted with fully loaded brushes of oil and it gives this wonderful textures especially when it merges with the other shapes and object colors. It is not a skimpily painted piece, it is rich and vibrant in many colors. When you look at this painting, because I used many artistic illusions in design, you feel like you are standing near an actual pond and want to immerse yourself in the pond and swim with the fishes. I feel that way anyway, I am a dreamer and I love fish. I own a few Koi and other fishes that I made a pond for, it is a tranquil place for me to go and get my mind of my troubles. It's necessary to dream and let yourself go into a dream world to relax, this painting was created to allow it. The price is $1,150 for this original, can have a limited edition giclee made and sell those for $400. The gallery priced on this large original work of art with a frame would be $2,500.
It is not framed, I can have a custom frame made locally for $300.
