Description:

This work is of course inspired by my love for Japanese wood block prints. I remember reading Shogun for the first time and learning of The Willow World. That book and the traditional Japanese wood blocks were the inspiration for this print.

I started this art as a series of transparent layers that overlap and blend them into vibrant colors and shapes. For the backgrounds I use scans of various art that I make from scratch. I will do watercolor, and then add pastel or even oil or pretty much anything to get the effect I want, then, I can work with it to achieve the effect that I want.

This process can take several months and I have several "backgrounds" in the works at all times. Then I build these up to the finished art.
