Wings of Love
Artist
Jessica Lee Nelson
Medium
Painting - Watercolor And Gouache On Black Bristol Broad
Description
I found the exoskeleton of a luna moth abdomen with the wings still attached. The wings have been battered and torn by the wind. The scales mostly rubbed off to reveal the translucent membrane. I new I wanted to paint them, but I didn't know in what context until this simple arrangement suddenly popped into my mind.
This painting presents my view of true love. Though it may become worn and torn, it yet survives, more beautiful for its journey. At its core is a sparkling brilliance and true durability to be treasured.

Hi Jessica, I just noticed that you offered original for original. I would gladly do that as I love your stuff, but I have to warn you that I use the cheapest of materials...I mean I'm using really cheap watercolor paper and prang watercolors that kids use. So, the paper tends to curl...I'm not sure if that's normal or not but I'm guessing the better papers don't do that. I'm sort of new at watercolor, I was mostly a graphite/charcoal guy. I have tons of those but they are not really framable. But, sure...it's not exactly an even trade since you're stuff is so much more professional looking. Send me email message if you're still interested and we can exchange addresses.

Well, I put it on the black board to show the delicacy and translucency of the battered moth wings (and therefore exploit the translucency of watercolor in a somewhat unusual way). Sometimes this picture also reminds me of pictures of Christ or a ghost rising from the dead. Unfortunately, the painting was...altered...when I sprayed it with Kamar varnish. I can't possibly ask $500 for it anymore. Would you be willing to trade an original for an original? I'll send you a picture of how the original looks now if you want to see it.

I initially thought this was a photo....unbelievable! I love how the composition lines direct you to the diamond....genius. Interesting look at love... and it seems to me a little ironic that the diamond is mostly quiet during the bright sunny days but seems to shimmer the most during the storms. It seems the heavier the storm or the lesser the light, the more it glimmers. Maybe that's why you put it on black board. Anyway, you're the best, keep them coming.
