Winter At Yosemite Falls
Photograph - Photogrpah
As Ive written about in many of my images Yosemite National Park is truly one of the most magical places on earth in my humble opinion. Yosemite Falls s the center piece of Yosemite Valley being the tallest waterfall in North America and the 2nd tallest in the world.
Winter storms in the valley bring a vista that millions miss during the normally cloudless summer. The storms hit the valley bringing either rain or snow depending on how cold it is in the valley and in higher locations. Some storms come down on the valley from Alaska and they bring cold temperatures and snow or they come across the Pacific from Hawaii with warmer temperatures and rain. At other times two systems can collide and bring a mixture of snow and rain.
Thats how it was when this image was captured. It had snowed earlier in the day and then the clouds came in and sat in the valley with a light drizzle obscuring most vistas in the valley.
I walked out into the meadow just to enjoy warming temperatures and take in the beauty of the clearing storm. To the north a large group of photographers had set up their tripods to capture the clouds clearing around half dome. I was intrigued and considered setting up also. Thats when I turned around and saw the clouds breaking over and around Yosemite Falls. I captured a number of images of the falls that afternoon all the time looking over my shoulder watching the group still waiting for a clearing around half dome. Im not sure they ever got the image they were waiting for.
