Description:

The russet color of the forest floor in mid-winter is characteristic of Alabama woodlands. Against this background the gray-green trunks of hardwood trees, the cast shadows of a late afternoon sun, and the parchment leaves of the Beech stand out in horizontal, verticle, and diagonal patterns. The Beech holds its leaves until the copper color buds of Spring push them away. As one of our local newsmen likes to say, this is all "absolutely Alabama."
