Description
Look closely - what at first appears to be dried leaves are actually thousands of Monarch butterflies - Danaus plexippus. These migrating butterflies are wintering in Pismo Beach, California in the tall tree tops of Eucalyptus. Dependent upon milkweed for habitat, the monarchs migrate all the way to Canada - however, returning butterflies are several generations removed from the ones that left!
