Winter brings a variety of dramatic landscapes to Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. Due to the thermal activity from geyser basins, the rising heat meets the ice cold, often subzero, air and temperatures create what is commonly referred to as "ghost trees". This freezing fog creates a wonderland which simply begs to be photographed. This image was captured just north of Upper Geyser Basin near the entrance to the Fairy Falls trail. Winter in Yellowstone National Park can be quite harsh and most unforgiving for man and beast alike. The beauty belies the many dangers that abound.
