Thk you, Douglas. I love that you can see the aspect of happiness and pain, which is my intent in many of my works. I paint life as I experience or see it. Life is an up and down journey, but so worth the work of getting through the bad, rocky trails, to get to the happy, smoother ones. As I see it today, after many tribulations, the blessings come from the rocky walks, because that is where we learn and become better. The best life has to offer is found after one survives a hardship. Spiritual encirclement I have experienced first hand, when we reach the peak of what we can stand, it is then that we are literally carried. ;-)

This painting in my opinion summarizes the pain, and the happiness that both are strongly reflected in many of your works. You have an incredible ability to show these two powerful emotions to the world...something that many of us are unable to do-we tend to create a facade of happiness only...fooling only ourselves. I also in this painting see a mirror depicting emptiness- a void of some kind, and a spiritual encirclement of some kind. Very powerful indeed!!!

Description:

You're welcome to contact artist for the original or for numbered, signed giclees. We live in a barbie doll world; anorexia, bulima, looking old, looking normal and not plastic are problems many women face today. I put the old face in one of the mirrors bc that is what I see when I look into a mirror; aging. Aging that no one else seems to see. ;-) Self image has taken a hit w young girls; so I wanted to include this msg in the painting. The lovely lady looks in the mirror and does not see herself accurately. However, the mirror on the far right shows her that her future is full of possiblities, --perhaps a magic mirror, a look at her spirit, or just the potential of making her life blossom--her reality being up to her by changing her perception. The broken and discarded heart and the broken mirror on the floor is about pain in her past. Note the spirit light is sorrounding these painful wounds; the spirit also comforts her, as she sits in the chair. The light wofting in is God showing her the opportunity (symbolized by the mirror) in the far right looking glass. She just needs to listen to her spirit side, not the physical flesh one.
