Description
Soursop fruit. 16th century woodcut illustration of the fruit of the 'guanabanus' or soursop (Guanabanus muricatus (L.)). The soursop is a broadleaf evergreen tree native to tropical regions. In many areas it is grown as a commercial crop, having a white pulp that is said to be a combination of strawberry, pineapple with a citrus edge. Most modern cultivars have a spiny flesh. This illustration comes from Aromatum et simplicium aliquot medicamentorum apud Indos nascientium historia by Garcia de Orta, published at Antwerp in 1574.
