Thimble Cactus
Mammillaria gracilis fragilis "Thimble Cactus" is a cool little cactus plant that form clumps of green globular bodies with dense interlaced white radial spines. Larger bodies can send out long straight thorns, usually from their top. They grow to about 5-6" high and just as wide. The new clumping bodies that form can break off pretty easily and will take root if planted.
They do best in warm dry climates, in porous, well-draining soil. They love filtered sun to light shade, so protect them from hot afternoon sun. They love regular water in warm weather, mid-spring to mid-fall, but keep them dry in the winter or they will rot. They are hardy to about 25 degrees, but protection from frost should be provided to prevent damage.
