Young Lincoln -sculpture
Sculpture - Acrylic On Canvas
One of recent history's most interesting and poignant characters, Lincoln seemed to evolve and grow with the added responsibilities.
I suspect he would find deep amusement at the way he is being diefied in today's world, since he appeared to have a deep sense of humility and was aware of his own foibles. Quoted as saying " It has been my experience that folks who have no vices, have very few virtues".
When I look at today's leaders they pale in comparison. Few have had such great foresight and compassion.
I was inspired to do a young Abe portrait. Fortunately for me, Lincoln lived in an age when photograpy had become practical and popular, so I was able to get reference. Two "life masks" of Lincoln at the Smithsonian, were of great benefit.
Enjoyed this classic Lincoln quote:
"I have stepped out upon this platform, that I may see you and that you may see me. And in the arrangement, I have the best of the bargain."
