Rich Smukler Exhibits At The San Diego Art Institute

Rich Smukler will present two of his newest works at The San Diego Art Institute’s 53rd International show. This is Smukler’s second exhibition at the site having first presented there in 2009 at SDAI's 50th. This years competition was juried by David A. Ross, former director of The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The Whitney Museum of American Art and The Boston Institute of Contemporary Art, just to name a few of his credentials. The first of the two works featured is “Passages”. It is a stunning Black and White captured from inside The Musee d’Orsay in Paris, overlooking The Seine. It contemplates the juxtaposition of time and travel taken from a clever vantage point. The second piece, “Tea Time at Morikami” is a serene and painterly landscape captured at the magnificent Morikami Gardens located in Delray Beach, Florida. The richness of texture was in part manifested through the use of infrared technology.

If you plan on attending, the opening gala reception is Saturday,...

A New Aircraft Print By Peter Bratt

A painting of the Avro Shackleton AEW2 which I did in 2010 using Corel Painter. The Avro Shackleton was a maritime reconnaissance bomber derived from the Avro Lincoln which was derived from the famous Avro Lancaster. The Shackleton served with the RAF from the early 1950's until the early 1990's in it's Airborne Early Warning Role. Within the RAF the Shackleton was known as "The Growler" because of the deep throated roar of it's four Rolls Royce Griffon engines or as "The Old Grey Lady."

The Artistic Mystic - Painting With Love

March 31st, 2015 - Santa Fe, NM

The Artistic Mystic - Painting With Love

Eileen Lighthawk is a multi-faceted artist who has the unique ability to take the mystery out of painting even as she adds in layers of mysticism. Her friends nicknamed her, "The Artistic Mystic."

Through much of her life, the artist has pursued a spiritual and creative path that has led her from the wilderness to cities and places in between, studying and learning in lodges, long houses, hogans, colleges, temples, universities and sacred circles of many traditions. For decades, she has shared what she has learned in remote reservations, corporate boardrooms, college classrooms, conferences, retreat centers and in online courses.

As a young child, she lived in Western Montana, immersed in the natural beauty of mountains, lakes, streams and forests. It was there that Lighthawk first discovered painting.

"As an impressionable and curious child, I was blessed to have famed Western artists Ace Powell and Nancy McLaughlin as my neighbors for a while. They...
