10/27/2013 -- For Immediate Release:
Award-winning Waynesville, NC Art Director/Designer, Craig T. Burgwardt, has recently established and populated his FAA Fine Art/Photography gallery and online store with a wide selection of prints reproduced from several mediums. These items can be seen at: http://craig-burgwardt.artistwebsites.com/
Burgwardt was just recently invited by local artist/proprietor, Teri Siewert, to show his wares in the prestigious and newly-renovated the Mahogany House gallery, located at 240 Depot St., Frog Level/Downtown, Waynesville, NC.
The multi-talented and creative artist/photographer was born and raised in Henderson, Nevada, and moved to WNC in the Fall of 2007 with his wife and daughter, after a 17-year residence in Estes Park, Colorado, in order to be closer to family in the region.
Although Burgwardt is currently working mostly in acrylic, he also dabbles in oils and watercolor when the mood strikes him, and when he finds the time, he has also spent quality time woodcarving artistic decoys. He is a signature member of the Nevada Watercolor Society, and after over 47 years of painting, illustration/graphic design and creative direction, he has become very comfortable just where he is, in his life and his career.
A veteran graphic designer/illustrator, as well as a fine artist, Burgwardt began painting at the ripe age of six when he begged his Mother to accompany her to a local summer recreation department oil painting class. The instructor took note of his ability to paint at the level of a teenager and offered to tutor him in private lessons.
The young artist was offered a full-ride art scholarship to UNLV in Las Vegas, but Burgwardt took his talents to Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon so that he could also partake in his love of football at a more competitive level. Burgwardt not only left Linfield with a BA degree in Art/design, but also sold out his Senior Thesis to fellow students and professors, some of whom still follow his journey to this day.
Upon his return to Las Vegas in 1981, Burgwardt designed and illustrated for some of the best agencies and designers in the area, as well as contributing his talents in the freelance and full-time realm with Cabela's, Segway, NASCAR, Guinness Book of World Records, Zig Ziglar Productions, Vintage Home Entertainment, The Stanley Hotel and a variety of hotels/casinos and builder/developers nationwide.
Over the course of the following years, he also studied and teamed-up with such highly-acclaimed, multi-media artists the likes of Barbara Burgwardt-Hunter, Genevieve Smith, Char Cruze, Colin Pringle, Austine Wood and Cliff Segerbloom. He notes that he is thankful to them for taking the time to share their knowledge and wisdom of their experience in the world of art.
"In my artistic world, Burgwardt notes, I paint what I experience. "Just being there" is a phrase I've used to describe the time I spend in the outdoors all of the time. Whether it's in a goose pit at 5 degrees below zero, stalking a herd bull in a downpour, or belly boat fishing for bass in 100 degree heat ... "just being there" seems to sum it up for me."
"Those three words seem to also sum up the new direction my art is taking, Burgwardt states. Since moving to my new studio in Waynesville, and being accepted to hang in the prestigious the Mahogany House gallery in Waynesville, I've wanted to be more studied and prolific in my painting."
It seems a new desire and need to make up for the years spent doing things other than painting over the last thirty years has taken a hold of the artistic side of Burgwardt and won't let go.
"I'm on a personal mission to share with others, my abilities as a true artist, not just a painter. I now have direction AND desire," says Burgwardt. I'm beginning to do more painting on location so as to sharpen my abilities of putting brush to canvas quicker, therefore capturing the moment I so wish to convey to others."
"The main goal is to allow myself to paint more naturally and freely, while still allowing the viewer to become engaged in my efforts to allow them to share in ... "just being there."
