Artist's Description
Abdomen x-ray of 37 year old female with Copper T, IUD, contraceptive device. The IUD, or intrauterine device, is a device that is placed inside the uterus for contraceptive purposes. A string attached to it extends down into the vagina for its removal. Some IUDs are said to be 3active2 because they contain added copper or progesterone to improve their effectiveness. The process involved is a modification of the uteral lining, thus preventing nidation of the ovum. The IUD is conducive to infection of the fallopian tubes (salpingitis) and is therefore not recommended for women who have never had children.
