I shot this scene five days after Hurricane Sandy. The southern end of Manhattan, along with many other areas, took a beating. At this point, electricity had not been totally restored in the area and damage remained everywhere downtown. Here, I found a very normal scene of every day life in spite of what had happened.

My interest in photography started in high school and turned more serious during the year I spent in Paris while working on my masters degree. I worked closely with a French artist who schooled me in 35mm photography, composition and color. During the late 70s and early 80s, I entered photos in competitions (placing first and second often), juried shows, and, had a gallery showing. However, over the next thirty years, I concentrated on my career in education. Through this period, my "art" was limited to snap shots of my students for school publications.
