No. 385 woodcut from Bradwardine's Very Scarce Arithmetic. Bradwardine (1290-1349), known as the "Profound Doctor," was one of the earliest English mathematicians. His book is based on Boethius relating to the theory of numbers and gives much attention to ancient figurate numbers and ratios.
