Before the mountains could be constructed, my contribution had to be completed. I was commissioned to paint a 3ft x 90 ft mural around the entire room. The theme was fair skies on the right, cumulous on the left (including rain storm with lightening) At one end of the room, Sunset in the San Gorgonio Pass with Mt. San Jacinto beside it. At the other end, the Salton Sea. In this photo of the room the backdrop integrates the tunnel, a Mill operation was installed below the Mountain tunnel. Historically correct, train disaster near the mill, Once the backdrop was painted, these intricately designed villages, camps, Union Station, canyons with massive (scaled) boulders and pines fill canyons. Intricate wiring designs control the direction of trains, sound, and speed. Over a 10 year period, trees, brush to go along the desert scape, palms, Joshua trees, tumbleweeds were collected, along with gravel, river washed stones to create the natural environment in miniature.
