Genetically-engineered baby. Conceptual computer artwork representing a genetically-engineered human baby. A foetus is seen developing in its mother. A DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) autoradiogram, which represents the baby's genetic code, is in the background. In the future it may be possible for genes which code for certain physical characteristics (for example eye colour) to be inserted into the genetic material of an unborn baby. However, the potential use of genetic engineering for the production of designer" babies is controversial."
