This painting was done on one of the only days during the Augusta, Missouri 9th Annual Plein Air Event when it did not rain all day. That was very lucky for me, because I won first prize that day for this painting. With over 100 talented and experienced artists participating, it was a wonderful surprise for me to win! It was the 9th day of the event and I had been wanting to paint this barn for a week.

When it comes to her art, Lorraine is a late bloomer. The path has been a long and crooked one! She was raised in St. Louis, where she took every art course offered by her high school and went to college with a declared major in art. However, when she saw what the other students could do, she gave it up, thinking she was not talented enough. Lorraine's father, who was a self-taught and gifted artist, always told her she could learn everything she needed to become a successful artist by reading and practice. So in her forties, after she quit her job to care for her mother-in-law, she took his advice to heart and started reading a lot about art and practicing. She is very grateful to her father and her mother-in-law for the “push” they...
