About the Image

Solstice by Karen MacKenzie

This gouache painting captures the spirit of Winter Solstice with a blazing star in its center depicting the return of the sun surrounded by a snowflake bordered by smaller snowflakes. Around all of that is intricate Celtic knot work woven in a rich cranberry and around that a lively garland of berried branches and in the corners magical crowns emphasizing the sacred transition of the seasons.
