The Taftsville covered bridge which was one of Vermonts oldest covered bridges (built 1836) was in August 2011 partially destroyed by tropical storm Irene. On Sept 7th 2013 the covered bridge was offically reopened. This covered bridge connects Quechee and Woodstock Vermont and spans the Ottauquechee river. The interesting fact was the bridge was scheduled for a refit in 2012 but these plans were scraped when Tropical storm Irene came through. The Overall cost exceeded 2.5 million and was in jepardy due to Barack Obama wanting to remove funding from the historic buildings bill that was funded in 2009. The take down crew came from the Wright Brothers Construction and the new construction was done by Alpine Construction. I don't know if the current construction is the same mixed King truss and Queen truss construction but as soon as I get word I will update this writing.

So beautiful! The red really stands out against the cold winter landscape! f/love!! ( I hope you are snugged up by the wood stove, I hear you all are getting some extra winter blessings! Haha! Really though, I hear it is really extra cold and nasty. Stay warm and stay safe.
Jeff Folger replied:
Yes it is cold Debbie but I dress for it... then I go home and thaw out by the fire... :-)

V Red in this bridge is amazingly bright! Very nice composition withthe water running through in a diagonal angle. This winter image almost looks like a black and white onw with the color in the bridge left in place. It is hard to believe it coast over 2.5 million to restore this bridge!
Jeff Folger replied:
thanks Linda, hopefully the 2.5 will keep it up for another 170 for a few more generations.
