To me this is a very scary piece of art.

All of the markers in red are people in my family who I think had Alzheimer's. My grandmother on my father's side may have had a tumor but it presented itself as Alzheimer's, but wasn't. The men in the family tend to die before they can develop Alzheimers.

This is a really wonderful piece of sculpture with so much of emotions involved. Hope to God that, Alzeimmer decides not to visit your family - or anybody else's, any more.

Artist's Description

This is a Conceptual Art piece on the genetic links to Alzheimer's Disease. The bottom layer is carved MDF of the brain. The left half is a healthy brain, the right half is a brain destroyed by Alzheimer's. My mother's face is painted into the carvings. On the left is her young face, on the right her old. There is a piece of acrylic plastic held about 1 inch away from the carving. It has my family tree on it. Family members who have not had Alzheimer's are noted with their gender in black. Those who are suspected of having Alzheimer's have their gender noted in red. Most of the men have died too young to know whether they would have developed Alzheimer's. The bottom row is my brother, myself, and my sister. We are just a bit young to be showing symptoms.
