MOLLIE TOWNSEND Mollie Townsend (nee Mary Edith Stewart) born Smithfield, O.F.S., South Africa, October 1921. Private art lessons from Zerfii Caldecott, Wynberg, Cape Province. 1939 Studied at the Academic de la Grande Chaumiefre, Paris, 1971 and the Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town, 1972-1975 B.A.(Fine Art). Lived in Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) 1954-1956 and the Bechuanaland Protectorate (now Botswana) 1956-1971. Amongst numerous commissions are the designs of two Botswana postage stamps (S.G.186-189 and 249-252) Worked at The Graphic Workshop, Claremont and Observatory, alongside Sue Williamson and others from 1980 - 1993 Held numerous solo exhibitions and taken part in many group...
