Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

Adult Eastern Phoebe resting on fence post. Photography by Bob Orsillo
The Eastern Phoebe (Sayornis phoebe) is a small passerine bird. This tyrant flycatcher breeds in eastern North America, although its normal range does not include the southeastern coastal USA.
It is migratory, wintering in the southernmost USA and Central America. It is a very rare vagrant to western Europe. This is one of the first birds to return to the breeding grounds in spring and one of the last to leave in the fall. They arrive for breeding in mid-late March, but they return to winter quarters around the same time when other migrant songbirds do, in September and early October; migration times have stayed the same in the last 100 years.

A Life in Light and Shadow Bob Orsillo has always been drawn to the power of light and shadow. This fascination manifested in a dual pursuit: the meticulous precision of photography and the grand storytelling of cinematography. As both a photographer and a cinematographer, Bob has carved a unique path in the artistic world. Orsillo's journey began with photography, capturing still moments that resonated with a deeper truth. He developed a keen eye for composition, using light and shadow to evoke emotions and tell stories within a single frame. This foundation in photography informs his work as a cinematographer, where he orchestrates moving landscapes of light and shadow to bring narratives to life on the screen. As a cinematographer,...

I don't know how I missed seeing this darling image, Bob, but it's just too adorable!!!!! I have an Eastern Phoebe nesting right now in the elbow of the awning over my deck (which now I can't use, of course, until the babies have hatched and fledged). Must say there was a cowbird egg in the nest ... sigh ... tough decision made about 2 weeks ago. I've tried so hard to get a decent shot of my Phoebe but with no luck, she's very shy. I'll just come here and enjoy yours!!! Your little sweetie flying away is the icing on the cake!!!! LOVE this!!!!! f/v of course!!!
Bob Orsillo replied:
Thank you Lois! :))

Little tiny, quick Phoebe. That takes patience or perhaps luck! Lovely image and narrative.
