This limited edition bronze sculpture is based on a lifetime of experiences with the wild animals who roam the rugged foothills around my family cabin in Wyoming's Snowy Range. At age seven, I watched out the cabin window as mountain lion stalked past, and the next day I followed the lion�s tracks in the mud along the creek. These vivid encounters sparked a love for these elusive and mysterious big cats that haunt our draw to this day. I love the song of the meadowlarks, the joyful bounding of mule deer when the first grass sprouts push into the light of spring, the howls and yips of the coyote packs that den among the boulders. This bronze sculpture also features the golden eagle that nests in a huge cottonwood upstream, the longtailed weasel who bounds through the snow, the pika who bleats from the alpine cliffs. I have been an artist since I was knee high to a short-horned locust. My dad, Willoughby Senior (FAA) was a professional artist and writer and I have stepped in his shoes since I was born, though he drew horses better than I did when I was a kid. My family lived in a hand-hewn log cabin we built ourselves in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and had no water or electricity. I love my life with my husband and family in Wyoming among the horses, gophers, deer, antelope, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, and the wild landscape. My work is driven by the land, animals, wild plants and birds I have come to know so well. Hummingbirds still try to get nectar from my upturned fingers. My artwork consists of all these things and more...
